Social Media Influencer Kirti Patel Arrested After 10 Months on the Run in Honey-Trap and Extortion Case
A court in Surat had issued a warrant against Kirti Patel last year after an FIR was registered in a honey-trapping and extortion case. Kirti Patel, a social media influencer with over 1.3 million followers on Instagram, was arrested in Ahmedabad after evading authorities for 10 months. The case is related to a builder in Surat who was allegedly targeted.
According to Surat Police, Patel had been under surveillance since June 2024. She allegedly kept changing locations across Gujarat and used different SIM cards and IP addresses to avoid being tracked. The court issued a warrant against her following the registration of the FIR, which named five accused individuals. Four of them were already in custody, while Patel had been absconding.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alok Kumar of Surat Zone-1 told news agency ANI, “An FIR was registered in June 2024 in a honey-trap case involving five accused. Four were arrested, while Kirti Patel had been on the run for the past 10 months. We arrested her based on the warrant issued by the court and presented her before the judiciary. She had demanded ₹2 crore as extortion from the builder.”
The DCP further stated that Instagram helped in tracking her down. “During these 10 months, she kept changing her location throughout Gujarat, along with her IP address, phone numbers, and SIM cards. We also coordinated with Instagram to trace her digital footprint.” With the help of cyber experts and local police, Patel was eventually located and arrested in the Sarkhej area of Ahmedabad. “Our technical team and cyber specialists helped us pinpoint her location. We contacted our counterparts in Ahmedabad and apprehended her,” said Kumar.
In addition to the extortion case, Patel also faces several other complaints, including land grabbing. The DCP confirmed, “We will be recording her statements in these cases as well and proceeding with further investigations.”

What is a Honey-Trap?
A honey-trap is a deceptive tactic where an individual, often using charm or romance, lures someone into a compromising situation. The victim is then manipulated, blackmailed, or deceived—typically for money, sensitive information, or other benefits.
In many honey-trap cases, the victim is led to believe they are in a romantic relationship. However, they are later threatened with photos, videos, or false accusations unless they comply with demands or pay money to the perpetrator.
Authorities reported on Thursday that social media influencer Kirti Patel was arrested by Surat Police nearly a year after she went into hiding. She is accused of extorting money from a city-based builder and attempting to defame him through social media platforms.
